Two months ago I was tasked with decorating my cousin’s daughter’s 1st birthday party. I bought these Martha Stewart flower pom poms here. When I was assembling them, I realized they were just cut out tissue paper held together by a wire. That Martha Stewart is so smart! I wanted to make my own because I wanted different colors and quite frankly, they are so easy to make. Why peonies? Because peonies are my favorite flower and the layers of tissue paper reminded me of the layers of petals that peonies have. I think they are the perfect decor for a girl’s birthday, bridal shower or for your home office.
You will need:
- Tissue paper (I suggest 3 different colors)
- Scissors
- Paper clips
I took 4 sheets of tissue paper and cut them in half making it 8 sheets of tissue paper. I stacked the sheets of tissue paper together so they were all aligned. Fold the tissue paper like an accordian. I folded them into about 1 1/2 inch sections.
When you’re finished, the tissue paper should look like an accordian.
Wrap the paper clip around the middle part of the tissue paper. With a pencil, draw half ovals on the ends. This will end up being the petals.
Cut along the line. The stack is thick so be aggressive!
Unfold the accordian. Start folding back the layers of tissue paper.
