Places to Go in 2012

Every year, I make a list of places I want to go.  Last year’s list included Chicago, Seattle, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, and Prague.  I never believe that I’ll actually get to go to all these places but I’ve always believed that getting things done begins with a list and intention.  My goal is to visit at least 2 new US cities a year.  The South is unchartered territory for me.  I’ve been to Florida many times but does that even count as the South?  Here’s my list so far.  What’s on your list?

1. Austin, TX

Austin is the live music capitol of the world.  I keep hearing rave reviews about this city from all my friends.  It’s part quirky, bohemian, and hippie; sign me up!  The picture above is of the largest urban bat colony in North America.  They come out under the Congress Avenue bridge every night at dusk.  How cool?

2. Patagonia

My boyfriend and I attempted to go to Patagonia 3 times in the last year and a half and it just never happened.  It’s the trip that eludes us.  I see pictures of Patagonia and can’t believe my eyes.  I would love to ride a zodiac and tour the glaciers.

3. Dubrovnik, Croatia

Friends have told me that the most beautiful place in Europe is in Croatia.  I’ve been researching Dubrovnik for the past year and I am enchanted by this medieval city.  I would love to stroll the Old Town and marvel at the architecture.

4. New Orleans, LA

Besides the obvious reasons, I would go to New Orleans just for the food scene alone…Po’ boys, beignets, jambalaya and gumbo and the list goes on and on.

5. Budapest, Hungary

Since going to Eastern Europe for the first time 2 years ago, I’m really lovin it and I want to explore more.  Budapest is next on my hit list.  I want to be cheesy and take a river cruise on the Danube and visit a traditional bath house just to name a few things.
