Kissing Summer Goodbye

3 of my favorite things in life are as follows: 1) summer 2) tacos and 3) the beach.  When it’s the last unofficial weekend of summer, you go big or you go home.  We spent the long weekend eating tacos and going to the beach in the Hamptons.  During our previous trip to the Hamptons, we spent it in the Western part of the Hamptons (Southampton, Water Mill, Sag Harbor, and Bridgehampton (read this post).  This time, we spent most of the time in the East (East Hampton, Amagansett and Montauk).  I was surprised at how crowded Montauk has become.  When I first visited Montauk about 15 years ago, it was largely a fishing village.  Now, you see hipsters, surfers, food trucks, and glamorous hotels.  My favorite day was spending it on Ditch Plains watching the surfers and hippies on the beach.  So many people stayed on the beach even after 5 pm savoring the last bits of summer.  I loved the fish and shrimp tacos from Montaco, a food truck in the beach parking lot.  They were served in blue corn tortillas which was a nice touch.  Another great taco place we went to was La Fondita in Amangansett.  There were picnic tables on the lawn which gave it a summer camp vibe.  I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the last unofficial weekend of summer than with tacos and the beach.
